The construction of visitors centre at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) Lodoare gate, that is expected to cost over 600m/- will be completed in August, this year. The Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Donatus Kamamba, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the project would serve tourists visiting the Ngorongoro Conservation area and Serengeti National Park.
"The centre will also be used to display various literature and illustrations for tourists to understand the conservation area right from the gate," he said. Mr Kamamba also appreciated the support given by the Japanese government through the Mitsubishi Corporation saying, "This project is the outcome of Japanese recognition of the importance and contribution of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area."
The Japanese Ambassador, Hiroshi Nakagawa who also witnessed the signing ceremony, said the Japanese government was also considering the request to supply some equipment to the centre, upon completion of the project. "We are now in the process of formulating the cultural grant aid to provide equipment such as audio visual machines and I sincerely hope we can extend the support in this areas as soon as possible after the completion," he said.
The Japanese government had in the past supported various development related projects which included, among others, the construction of 70-km Makuyuni - Ngorongoro road, the Kivukoni fish market and the jetty in Kilwa Kisiwani. The Ambassador also expressed optimism that the project would be completed within a specified period of time. "It is the hope of everybody to see the wonderfully refurbished Ngorongoro visitor centre next year, which will cater for the needs of the tourists from all over the world," he said.
