The event in its fourth year gives the continent’s brightest young fashion designers a platform to strut their stuff. And the theme for this year’s competition is ‘What is the nature of your fashion’. Redd’s Brand Manager, George Kavishe said yesterday that only one category of upcoming designers will be staged and thus entrants would have to draw inspiration for garments from nature such as the elements of the earth, wind, water and fire. Kavishe reiterated that the competition seeks to unearth the best of African emerging young fashion designers. He said: “Every year we discover the most extraordinary talent and I am sure this year will be no different. We have seen the event grow from strength to strength since we first launched it three years ago, attracting the brightest and best of our aspiring fashion designers. It is an exceptional platform to display the potential of African talent and increasingly is seen as a launching pad for a design career.” The winner will walk away with 5,000 US dollars (about 6m/-), an all-expensespaid trip to the Cape Town Fashion Week and a weeklong internship with renowned designer, Sonwabile Ndamase. Ndamase who started his Vukani Fashion label in 1985 is best known for his iconic Madiba shirts. He is committed to showcasing indigenous African fashion and being an agent for emerging designers on the continent. Kavishe said aspiring young designers can pick up entry forms at Mayfair Plaza, Mlimani City, Millenium Towers, Slipway, Fabak Fashion Salon and Fitness Centre or download at Redd’s website- http:www.redds.com.
