A total of 286 inmates are in various remand prisons countrywide waiting to be executed, the Parliament was told yesterday. The figures that were released on October 1 this year show that out of that number, 277 are men and 6 women.
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ambassador Hamisi Kagasheki told the House that a prisoner who has remained in jail for a longer period after being executed is the one whose case was ruled in 1986.
Ambassador Kagasheki was answering Mr Ponsiano Nyami (Nkasi-CCM) who in his supplementary question called on the president to speed up signing death penalties for those already sentenced to death.
“The president should quickly facilitate the process of killing these inmates because the longer they continue living, the more they get confused psychologically,” Mr Nyami told the Parliament. The Nkasi MP had also lamented that the government was incurring some unnecessary expenses by continuing to feed people who were supposed to be dead.
However, Ambassador Kagasheki informed him that it was difficult to end one’s life, regardless of his/her criminality, and that was why the president took time to sign death sentences. He added that the current debate going on in the country among different groups to abandon the death sentence may help the nation to come up with a better solution on how to handle cases of people (already executed).
The number of those inmates who are awating noose is huge so we need to have compassion for them!Let the government introduce a conjugal visit(a sex visit to a wife or husband who are in jail) to a mprisoners who are in death row! That would be the highest human rights ever!It doesnt appeal to anyone that the prisoner under death row should have to spank his monkey (shuka mnazi) all days until he/ she get hunged up! That is a gross inhumane and we need to work on it religiously! I suggest, the government should give them a conjugal visit at least two time a month and this will keep them from getting a light headed due to overly choking their chicken! These prisone are human beings and most probably have commited their mistakes under the influence of marijuana, hot drinks, or uncontrolled sex desire. Please , please, to the bottom of my living heart, I beg the government to concider giving these type of inmates a conjugal visits before they get hunged up!!
